First, welcome to ATOC 3500/CHEM 3151. There are about 17 students
enrolled in the class, roughly 50/50 for the two section names (ATOC
&CHEM). What this means is that using D2L isn't the best way to
communicate with the class and set up workstreams - it takes two of
everything, one for each section. At least, that was the case the last
time I taught this class.
So in the meantime, until I can find a better way to link the two
sections, I'm going to be posting material on a website that I
maintain. Here's the link:
http://storm.colorado.edu/~toohey/ATOC3500-2016.html
Right now, you'll just find the course syllabus on the website. But
soon I'll be adding problems that we'll be discussing in class. As you
will see when you read the syllabus, I like to use a flipped classroom.
A few years ago students didn't know what that meant. But now, most
understand that it involves working on problems in class, usually in
smaller groups, and then talking about the results. So, you will note
that we don't have a textbook; but I will post useful material to
inform our discussions/problem solving before class, so that you have
something to review before coming. This material will have links on the
website. So I expect everyone to keep up regularly with the website.
Finally, a reminder that we meet in Duane D318. This is an odd-looking
room - it's really a lab set up for mini projects, and you might see
some lying around. But it's also a nice, quiet classroom. It's locked,
and I have the key, so you might have to wait in the hallway until I
arrive. I usually try to arrive about 5-10 minutes before class, so I
will see you today at around 12:20!
See you soon!
